Acetyl-L-carnitine

Today we’re looking at Acetyl-L-carnitine and the role it plays in our body. Acetyl-L-carnitine is produced from L-carnitine – which is an amino acid derivative of Lysine and Methionine. We will go further into detail into both of those Amino acids in a further post, however if you haven’t already, you may wish to read our post on amino acids here.

Nootropic Supplement
Acetyl-L-carnitine is probably best known as a weight loss supplement, however in recent years we have seen increased sales for use as a so called ‘brain booster’. As a ‘cognitive enhancer’ Alcar is said to provide many benefits with supplementation. Those who have tried Alcar have reported that they have experienced a lift in their mood, memory improvements and a greater attention span. Clinical trials also suggest that Alcar supplementation can reduce aggression in those who suffer from attention deficits.
